THE BRAND

Szabo Sihag was founded in 2019 by Meghna Sihag and Krisztian Szabo, based between India and London. A passion for culture inspires the Szabo Sihag ready-to-wear collections for women, rooted in the designers’ lived experience of growing up with traditional Indian textiles. The brand is driven by a deep connection to craft, memory and everyday cultural practices that are slowly disappearing.

Szabo Sihag’s collections reinterpret heritage by blending traditional silhouettes, hand-spun khadi cotton, khadi wool, Odhaniya/Odhani (traditional scarves) and locally crafted details with modern construction and global sensibilities. Sustainability and cultural continuity sit at the core of the brand’s ethos. By working with up-cycled materials and collaborating closely with artisans and small-scale manufacturers in India, Szabo Sihag embeds endangered textile practices into modern womenswear designed for daily life. Today, Szabo Sihag operates as an independent fashion label, committed to evolving craft through relevance, wearability and thoughtful design rather than preservation alone.

Design

Szabo Sihag is centred on nostalgia, reimagined to address the needs of modern living. Through conscious editing, we refine our choices to prioritise sustainability, cultural awareness and purposeful design. This focus on what is essential results in garments that are inclusive, playful and impactful. Traditional silhouettes and locally crafted elements form the foundation of our design language, creating a strong connection to heritage while being shaped for contemporary life. The innovation of Szabo Sihag lies in a design-led system that integrates endangered textile practices into contemporary global womenswear through repeatable garment structures rather than treating craft as ceremonial, symbolic or one-off. By embedding craft into everyday design, we ensure these practices remain relevant, wearable and alive within modern wardrobes.

Odhani

Odhani The odhani is a traditional hand-dyed and handwoven scarf that was once part of everyday dress for women across regions such as Haryana and Rajasthan. Today, the odhani has largely disappeared from daily life in Haryana. It has been reduced to occasional or festive wear, gradually losing relevance as machine-made textiles and Western silhouettes dominate contemporary wardrobes. We see this disappearance not as inevitable, but as a failure of design to adapt tradition to modern life. At Szabo Sihag, we work with odhanis and reinterpret them through contemporary womenswear. By reshaping the textile into modern silhouettes, we translate its craftsmanship into garments designed for everyday, global wear. The odhani is not treated as nostalgia or decoration, but as a living material — questioned, redesigned and recontextualised — allowing its craft to evolve through continued use rather than preservation alone. So that new generations can relate to these fabrics, we apply the same approach to traditional details such as kiran lace, integrating them into modern design systems while respecting their origin and technique.

Production

All our production is done locally in India, where we collaborate with numerous small-scale production units and family-owned businesses across the country. We use a wide range of handcrafted fabrics and techniques, with nearly 90% of the materials being locally sourced.

Empower and Elevate Local Communities

We believe in honouring indigenous artisanal traditions and craftsmanship by taking purposeful steps within our community.

We use hand-spun Khadi cotton from village artisans, ensuring environmentally conscious materials that support sustainable livelihoods. As industrialization threatens these crafts, our work helps preserve both the tradition and the livelihoods of artisans.

By partnering with small-scale manufacturers in India, we strengthen local economies, provide fair wages, and promote skill development. Our ethical production processes foster sustainable growth and create a lasting positive impact on the communities we serve.
